Read the requirement before choosing a standard

Identify the named standard, version, scope and any requirements for the issuing body. If the buyer’s wording is unclear, use its clarification process. Do not commission a certificate solely because another company in the sector holds it.

Check the activities and sites covered

Compare the proposed scope with the products or services being offered. Existing certification may need a scope review when the activity or location changes. Ask the issuing body to confirm what its certificate covers, and the buyer to clarify its acceptance criteria where needed.
